Retinal photography and Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT)
Digital retinal photography and OCT are the latest in technology. They enable the best possible view of the retina (back of the eye). This allows the Optometrist to detect conditions like macular degeneration, glaucoma and diabetic eye disease. Retinal imaging enables a more detailed view of structures at the back of the eye that cannot be achieved by conventional methods. Images can be viewed instantly, enabling our optometrist to discuss the findings with you. This technology also allows us to more accurately monitor changes in eye health over time. Retinal photography and OCT are currently not covered by Medicare.

Kids' Eye Tests
There are a number of key times in a child‘s life when eye examinations are recommended. These are at age 3.5, before starting school, grades 2 -3, year 6 and before commencing VCE or IB. When considering making an appointment for your child, timing can play a critical role to ensure that even the most subtle vision imperfections are detected.

Vision Perception Assessment
If your child has not developed the appropriate skills by the appropriate age, then their visual performance in the classroom may be affected. Your child may be asked to do things (eg learn to read) which they are not developmentally ready to do. A developmental and visual perceptual assessment will discover whether your child’s current visual motor and perceptual skills are at the expected level for their age.

Vision Therapy
The aim of vision therapy is to help your child explore new ways of specific eye related learning and thinking. Your child will have recently performed a visual perceptual assessment with the optometrist. From this assessment, we will know the specific areas that require assistance. The optometrist will tailor a vision therapy program for your child based on the perceptual assessment results. This program should be practiced 15-20 minutes per day at home.
